Week 8 2PC Top 10 Rankings
Now that teams have figured out their identity for the 2025 season, how do the best stack up at the top of the league?
Sitting here at Game Week 8, most of the teams in the NFL have developed some form of an identity. We know that the Colts have become one of the most balanced and efficient offenses in NFL history. The Kansas City Chiefs have bounced back after a slow start to the season. A team like the 49ers, riddled with injuries, has proven to be resilient and gritty in their wins.
At this point in the season, it’s unlikely that there will be major week-to-week movement within our staff’s collective Top 10 list; we (probably) know who the good teams are at this point. However, on any given Sunday, there are upsets, and such games are bound to change how we and most football fans rank the best of the best. With that in mind, let’s take a look at this week’s 2 Point Conversion staff Top 10.
1. Indianapolis Colts (Week 7: 2, Week 1: NR)
Last Week: Beat LA Chargers, 38-24
Through seven games, there isn’t much more to say about the Indianapolis Colts historic offense. Jonathan Taylor is the engine of this group, driving them on the ground. Daniel Jones has played largely mistake-free football, and the defense is good enough to complement the offense.
This team is very balanced and currently leads the NFL in wins (6). It would be disrespectful not to rank the Colts at the top at this point.
2. Detroit Lions (Week 7: 4, Week 1: 5)
Last Week: Beat Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-9
We didn’t get a chance to mention this game during last week’s episode of Football Talk, the 2PC’s podcast, but the winner of the Lions/Bucs game would be in the driver’s seat as the best team in the NFC. Well, the Lions won this game, and in pretty convincing fashion.
For now, the Lions headline a very stacked top of the NFC. This spot seemingly can flip every week, but the Lions have established themselves as true contenders in the NFC.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Week 7: 1, Week 1: NR)
Last Week: Lost to Detroit Lions, 24-9
While the Lions won and jumped up a few spots, the Bucs slid from the peak of our rankings to 3rd Place. This fall is less a product of the Buccaneers regressing and more so an indictment of just how good the Colts and Lions are playing right now.
It’s hard to discount the Buccaneers as one of the elite teams in the NFL right now. Despite significant injuries on offense, this team has routinely fought and won tough matchups. If the injuries continue to mount, however, there may be certain matchups that have a talent disparity the Buccaneers cannot overcome.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (Week 7: 7, Week 1: 1)
Last Week: Beat Minnesota Vikings, 28-22
After losing two in a row, the Eagles are back to their winning ways, denying the Carson Wentz-led Vikings a chance at a revenge game. This team has too much talent for many opponents in the league.
As long as Philly is in the spotlight, there will continue to be scrutiny about how the touches are divvied up among the skill position players. However, if Jalen Hurts can stack more performances like the Vikings game together, there won’t be much to complain about with the Eagles offense.
5. Green Bay Packers (Week 7: 3, Week 1: 6)
Last Week: Beat Arizona Cardinals, 27-23
I can’t quite quit the Green Bay Packers this season. Every week, this team seems to find themselves in a tough spot, and yet are able to pull off the victory. This type of resilience is one of the reasons they currently have the 1 seed for the NFC playoff race.
Even though this team is winning, I do find myself asking why the games are close. If the Packers are unable to put the teams away that they should, more instances like the Week 3 loss to Cleveland could be on the horizon.
6. Los Angeles Rams (Week 7: 6, Week 1: NR)
Last Week: Beat Jacksonville Jaguars (in London), 35-7
Yet another talented NFC team taking care of business is the LA Rams, who dominated the Jaguars across the pond early last weekend. Even without Puka Nacua, Matthew Stafford and the Rams offense fired on all cylinders.
At this point in the season, the NFC has a record of 25-14 against AFC opponents in intraconference games. The fact that through our Top 6, five teams are NFC is ludicrous.
7. Kansas City Chiefs (Week 7: 8, Week 1:4)
Last Week: Beat Las Vegas Raiders, 31-0
Ever since starting 0-2, the Chiefs have been on an absolute tear. The team has won four of their last five games, Patrick Mahomes looks like an MVP candidate again, and now WR Rashee Rice is back from suspension and already scoring touchdowns.
This team will be tough to beat down the stretch, and could be the best passing attack we’ve seen from Kansas City since the “prime” Mahomes years.
8. Seattle Seahawks (Week 7: 10, Week 1: NR)
Last Week: Beat Houston Texans, 27-19
One of my main concerns going into the season for Seattle was how the team would respond when Sam Darnold inevitably had a poor game. Well, those concerns have been put to rest. Despite a rough game filled with turnovers from the quarterback, the Seahawks defense proved dominant in a Monday Night Football victory against Houston.
Seattle is a real contender in the NFC and will be a tough out the rest of the season.
9. New England Patriots (Week 7: 9, Week 1: NR)
Last Week: Beat Tennessee Titans, 31-13
The New England Patriots are back. Drake Maye is a true MVP candidate, the offensive line has improved tremendously from last season, and the free agent additions on defense have proven their worth.
It may be a bit premature, but if Drake Maye and his team continue to look like this, the rest of the league may start getting flashbacks to the previous dynasty in New England.
10. San Francisco 49ers (Week 7: NR, Week 1: 8)
Last Week: Beat Atlanta Falcons, 20-10
In the intro, I mentioned that the 49ers have made resiliency their identity early this season. Last week’s win on Sunday Night Football is a perfect example of that. In the first game without star LB Fred Warner, the Niners rattled the number one ranked Atlanta Falcons offense en route to a massive victory.
With all three of the Rams, Seahawks, and 49ers ranked in our Top 10, the NFC West race may be the most contested division race we’ve seen in quite some time.
First Out: Buffalo Bills (Week 7: 5, Week 1: 3)
Last Week: Idle, Lost to Atlanta Falcons in Week 6, 24-14
Buffalo falling out of the Top 10 is more a product of other teams taking advantage of the Bills being on a bye week and having significant wins. The Bills offense is still one of the best in the league, and while Josh Allen isn’t playing like the MVP, he’s still performing at a high level.
There are concerns about the Bills defense, however. If the defense cannot stop the run, and the offense can’t get James Cook going, this may not be the last time Buffalo fails to make the Top 10.
Dropped: Buffalo Bills (5), Pittsburgh Steelers (First Out/11)
