Offense Notes:
During a Week 5 bye week last year, there were doubts regarding how strong the Eagles offense could be during the rest of the season. Naturally, Philly went a combined 15-1 after that bye week, including a four game run in the playoffs where they set the record for points scored in the NFC Championship game. The addition of Saquon Barkley took this already strong unit to a new level, as this group never scored below 20 following the bye week.
The personnel is still there for 2025 - all the projected starters are mostly the same (Steen for Becton). The big test will be with new Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo, who’s been with the team since 2021. This familiarity and experience should help the team hit the ground running early into the season. Even with the change in play-calling, the talent on offense may just be too big to fail. I don’t expect this team to take a big step back.

Defense Notes:
A lot of last season’s credit will go to the offense - and rightfully so, but the 2024 Philly defense was suffocating for the opposition. Between the sacks, the takeaways, or simply stymying the other team, this unit was ranked within the Top 10 of almost every single metric, their lone blemish being on 4th down defense. The rookie DB tandem in DeJean and Mitchell were seemingly the final pieces to creating a championship defense, and both came up big in the Super Bowl blowout victory.
This defense was so good last season that two of the leaders in this unit were lured away by massive contracts in free agency. With Milton Williams and Josh Sweat now gone, the Eagles will have to rely on the younger players that have mainly been depth until this point. The good news for Philly is that they have really really good depth, and the guys who will be taking over played very well in the playoffs. Adding Jihaad Campbell and Andrew Mukuba early in the draft as well should continue to add premium talent and depth to Vic Fangio’s unit. This group should still be a juggernaut in 2025.
Outlook
Overall, the Eagles are still pretty good. Despite losing some of their starters on defense to free agency, a good draft and strong depth could have that side of the ball even better in 2025. Even with a coordinator change on offense, the talent is too strong to deny as well. Are we looking at a team ready to go back to back?
Winning consecutive Super Bowls is hard (unless you’re named Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady), but shouldn’t that be the expectation for this team? I think it’s safe to say that the Eagles have earned the reputation of being the favorite, at least in the NFC. They should be looking to go back to the big game this season, and might be the team to break the NFC East streak of new division winners going back over a decade.
Expectation/Goal for 2025: Win NFC East, deep playoff run, reach Super Bowl
